The RT curriculum at Sacramento State prepares students to take the exam immediately after graduation. Novato Parks & Recreation is thrilled to be hosting adult athletic leagues Gather your team and register for our Men’s Basketball and Co-ed Volleyball fall leagues. Recreation Therapists must be certified by the National Council on Therapeutic Recreational Certification (NCTRC) in order to practice. Certified Recreation Therapy Specialist (CTRS) Emphasis is on therapeutic recreation as it applies to children and adults who are physically, mentally, socially, and/or emotionally challenged. It can be applied in clinical, transitional, and community based settings. The BS in Recreation Therapy focuses on recreation services for individuals who are ill, disabled, elderly, or incarcerated.

Starting in Fall 2020, the Recreation Therapy program became the first in the CSU to be administered as a stand-alone major, as opposed to a concentration, making your degree a B.S in Recreation Therapy. The Recreation Therapy program at Sac State is the oldest in California, having begun in 1953.
